Lake Matheson Motel surprised me with its charm. The two-bedroom apartment fit our family perfectly, featuring a lovely stream out front and a clean, well-appointed interior. The hosts made late check-out a breeze, which was greatly appreciated. The location near the main street meant we could easily explore the local dining options. However, the bathroom could use maintenance. the shower flooded as there were no drains outside the cubicle. Also, the lighting in the bathroom was a bit too intense for my liking. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this place for its comfort and friendliness.

misleading location

The room felt stale. the fan was underwhelming for the heat!!! A chair had a screw poking through the fabric, and it just seemed to lack proper maintenance overall. Misleading proximity to Lake Matheson!!!

The king studio we stayed in was super cozy, and we loved that the heater was on when we arrived—it really made our evening! There are some lovely spots to sip tea and enjoy the quiet in the garden area, or you can lounge by the outdoor seating. A minor downside was the limited kitchen utensils, but it didn’t really put a damper on our stay. 😊

It was just an excellent fit for a short interlude in Fox Glacier with the best value for money ratio. The reception lady was super friendly and helped us find some great lookout points nearby. Make sure to check out the local dining options for a fun bite after exploring.

the lake matheson motel was perfect for our stay. the king studio was spacious, with a big comfy bed and a well-equipped kitchenette. it's conveniently located just a short drive from lake matheson. also, the undercover parking for our car was a great bonus!
